At Persian Rug Galleries, we don't just sell fine Oriental rugs. We're ready to deal with all the needs that will arise with rug ownership, including appraisal and insurance issues.

It's not a guessing game
Insurance Claims PhotoIf you own an Oriental rug and aren't sure what it's worth, Persian Rug Galleries can help. I am accepted as a certified Rug Appraiser by the Oriental Rug Retailers of America, one of only a couple hundred or so in the entire country. Not everyone can do this. My family has been dealing in and appraising these rugs since the early 1900s, and our experience includes carpets going back to the 1850s. I can evaluate all the factors that go into determining a rug's value - age, condition, country of origin, quality of the wools, dyes, and knotting.

You need to know what I can tell you
Why get a rug appraised? If you've inherited a rug, it's important to know the true value for estate and insurance purposes. If it's time to sell, of course it helps to know what the rug is worth. But more importantly, if a rug is worn or damaged, we can tell you if it's worth investing the money it'll take to restore the rug to saleable condition. To make that decision, you need to know what an appraiser can tell you.

We make house calls
Insurance issues are another area in which we can help a rug owner. First, we advise people to check if their rug is indeed insured - in many cases, fine rugs are covered by the "fine arts" part of a homeowner's policy. If you aren't sure of your rug's worth, we will gladly do home visits for appraisals to help establish the replacement value.

The cost of talking to the wrong people
In the event that a flood, fire, or other catastrophe damages a fine Oriental rug, many times an insurance company will go to the wrong people - dealers who aren't certified Oriental rug appraisers. This often leads to mistakes in value or unnecessary loss claims. At Persian Rug Galleries, we can evaluate the damage and tell you if a fine rug is repairable or restorable. Often, the cost to restore a rug is far less than the replacement value. So our expertise can not only save a fine rug, it can also save money in insurance claims and, ultimately, lower premiums for us all.
